A comprehensive 90-day Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign has been launched in Bhaderwah, located in the Jammu and Kashmir, with the aim of protecting adolescents—especially girls—from cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases. The initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening preventive healthcare services in the region.
The campaign is being implemented under the guidance of the local health authorities in collaboration with the Health Department of India. It focuses primarily on vaccinating girls in the 9–14 age group, which is considered the most effective age range for HPV immunization. Health officials have organized vaccination sessions in schools, community health centers, and outreach camps to ensure maximum coverage during the 90-day period.
The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a common viral infection transmitted through intimate contact and is one of the leading causes of cervical cancer among women. By introducing the HPV vaccine at the community level, authorities aim to significantly reduce future cases of cervical cancer and other HPV-associated conditions.
Awareness programs are also being conducted alongside the vaccination drive to educate parents, teachers, and students about the importance, safety, and long-term benefits of the vaccine. Medical teams are addressing common myths and misconceptions to encourage higher participation.
Local administrative officials have appealed to parents and guardians to ensure their eligible children receive the vaccine within the campaign duration. The initiative is expected to improve public health outcomes and contribute to the broader goal of cancer prevention across the Union Territory.
Health experts have welcomed the move, stating that such focused vaccination campaigns can play a transformative role in reducing the burden of preventable cancers in rural and semi-urban areas like Bhaderwah.
The 90-day initiative reflects the government’s continued commitment to expanding immunization coverage and promoting women’s health across Jammu and Kashmir.
