UK Welcomes First Baby Born from Deceased Donor Womb Transplant

A baby boy has made medical history as the first child in the UK to be born after a womb transplant from a deceased donor.

Grace Bell, in her 30s, was born without a functioning uterus and had long been told she would not be able to carry her own child. Now, she describes her 10-week-old son, Hugo, as “nothing short of a miracle.”

Bell and her partner, Steve Powell, from Kent, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the donor and her family, praising their “kindness and selflessness” in making such an extraordinary gift possible. They also thanked the specialist medical teams in Oxford and London whose expertise and support guided them through the complex procedure and pregnancy.

The surgeons involved in the pioneering treatment hailed the birth as a landmark achievement for UK medicine, saying it represents a major breakthrough that could offer new hope to women born without a womb or those unable to carry a pregnancy due to medical conditions.
