Medanta has announced plans to develop a state‑of‑the‑art 400‑bed multi‑specialty hospital in Varanasi, marking a major expansion of its healthcare footprint in eastern Uttar Pradesh. This project involves a total investment of approximately ₹550 crore dedicated to interior fit‑outs, medical equipment and advanced clinical facilities.
Under the arrangement, Medanta has signed a Built‑to‑Suit and lease agreement with Shripal Hospitality and other partners. The civil infrastructure of the hospital will be developed by the partner based on Medanta’s specifications, while Medanta itself will invest in the interior services and advanced medical technologies.
The planned facility is strategically located in central Varanasi and is expected to address the growing demand for tertiary and advanced healthcare services in the city and its adjoining regions, which currently lacks large‑scale specialty care facilities. The hospital is designed to serve a broad population of over 4 million residents, reducing the need for patients to travel to other cities for complex treatments.
This new hospital will significantly strengthen Medanta’s presence in Uttar Pradesh, complementing its existing 950‑bed hospital in Lucknow and the recently opened 550‑bed facility in Noida. Once operational, Medanta’s total capacity in the state will rise to around 1,900 beds, solidifying its position as one of the leading private healthcare providers in the region.
According to company leaders, the Varanasi project reflects Medanta’s commitment to making high‑quality, patient‑centric care more accessible in densely populated and underserved markets. The hospital is expected to deliver comprehensive multi‑specialty services, leveraging advanced clinical expertise and modern technology to improve overall healthcare outcomes in the region.
Construction and development timelines have not been officially confirmed, but similar large‑scale projects by Medanta typically take several years to complete, with phased commissioning of facilities and services as work progresses.
