The National Medical Commission (NMC) has directed medical Colleges across the country to implement digital systems for tracking patient visits in teaching hospitals. The move aims to improve transparency, strengthen medical education, and ensure accurate reporting of patient data in hospitals attached to medical colleges.
According to the commission, digital tracking will help monitor the number of patients visiting outpatient departments (OPDs) and inpatient wards, which is an important factor in assessing the quality of clinical training provided to medical students. Proper patient flow in teaching hospitals is essential for students to gain practical experience during their medical education.
The NMC has advised medical colleges to adopt modern digital technologies such as electronic health records (EHR), hospital management systems, and online registration platforms. These systems will allow authorities to track patient footfall in real time and maintain accurate records of treatments, consultations, and hospital admissions.
Officials said that the initiative will also help prevent discrepancies in patient data reporting by some institutions. By introducing digital monitoring, the commission intends to ensure that medical colleges maintain the required standards of patient care and clinical exposure for students.
