The Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (TIMS) is preparing to implement a fully digital Electronic Hospital Management Information System (e-HMIS), marking a significant milestone in the digital transformation of public healthcare in Telangana. This advanced platform will replace fragmented legacy systems and paper-based processes with a unified, ABDM-compliant digital framework that integrates patient records, clinical workflows, billing, inventory management, and analytics across TIMS facilities.
The new e-HMIS is designed to serve as a single, centralized source of truth for patient care. By eliminating manual registers and disconnected software modules, the system aims to reduce patient wait times, enhance care coordination, minimize administrative inefficiencies, and ensure seamless service delivery across departments.
Key Features of the e-HMIS Platform
The system integrates multiple core hospital functions into one comprehensive digital ecosystem:
Patient Registration & ABHA Integration: Enables unique patient identification and longitudinal digital health records linked under Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
OPD, IPD & Emergency Management: Supports real-time appointment scheduling, queue management, and live bed tracking.
Electronic Health Records (EHR): Structured clinical documentation with customizable templates, voice-enabled notes, and AI-assisted documentation support.
Diagnostics & Pharmacy Integration: Automated lab and radiology order generation, digital reporting, and e-prescriptions.
Revenue Cycle & Billing Automation: Insurance verification, cashless claim processing, and transparent billing workflows.
Analytics & Dashboards: Real-time data insights on occupancy rates, disease patterns, financial performance, and resource utilization.
Telemedicine & Remote Monitoring: Built-in modules for virtual consultations and follow-up care.
Built on secure cloud infrastructure, the platform incorporates strong cybersecurity measures including encryption, role-based access control, audit trails, and compliance with Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act guidelines. It supports multilingual interfaces in Telugu, English, and Urdu to ensure accessibility for diverse patient populations. Additionally, the system enables secure interoperability through FHIR-based APIs in line with ABDM standards.
The rollout will begin at TIMS Hyderabad, the flagship facility, followed by a phased expansion to other TIMS units and affiliated hospitals. Comprehensive training programs for medical and administrative staff are already underway to ensure smooth adoption and operational efficiency.
Officials have emphasized that the implementation of e-HMIS will significantly improve patient experience by reducing duplicate testing, preventing revenue leakage, accelerating billing cycles, and optimizing hospital resource utilization—especially in high-volume public healthcare settings.
Funded through state health allocations and supported by experienced technical partners specializing in large-scale ABDM deployments, this initiative positions Telangana as a leader in public-sector digital health transformation and sets a benchmark for hospital digitization across India.
